What is an SPS Validator
Splinterlands Validators form the backbone of the SPS governance system, designed to decentralize and secure the platform while empowering the community to participate in its evolution. Built on a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) model, validators ensure all SPS transactions are validated and recorded accurately on the blockchain.
- A decentralized node for validating blocks in the Splinterlands ecosystem.
- Critical for maintaining the integrity and functionality of the blockchain.
The validator network was envisioned with several goals in mind:
Decentralization & Security:
By encouraging thousands of nodes to operate globally, the network aims to distribute and decentralize the responsibility of securing the Splinterlands ecosystem. This prevents single points of failure and strengthens the platform’s integrity.
Community Governance:
SPS token holders play a pivotal role by voting for validators, ensuring that the network operates in a way that reflects the will of the community. Voting doesn’t consume staked tokens, allowing users to actively participate in governance without financial impact.
Incentivizing Participation
To motivate users to run validator nodes, the system provides SPS and VOUCHER rewards:
Voted Validators:
Earn rewards proportional to the SPS votes they receive.
License Holders:
Receive equal shares of a significant monthly rewards pool just by running a node.
License Holders
A portion of SPS tokens and all VOUCHER tokens spent on node licenses are burned, reducing token supply and potentially increasing value over time. This creates a sustainable economic model that benefits the entire Splinterlands ecosystem.
